Kiku (菊), known as Chrysanthemum, is a flower that originates mostly in East Asia and holds significance in Chinese and Japanese culture. The flower has many symbolic meanings depending on the region and color, but one of its core meanings in Japan is longevity and resilience as it blossoms in the colder months of the year. Japan celebrates Kiku no Sekku (Chrysanthemum Festival) on September 9th, which is one of Japan's five sacred ancient festivals, where people historically drank chrysanthemum sake to ensure good health and long life. At the same time, white ones are strictly used for funerals and graves in Japan, symbolizing grief, remembrance, and the passing of a soul.
